Well, checked the TC and it was low. The person who installed it didn't put enough fluid in. I removed the cap and was able to put my finger in and measured it at 1.5" (if I remember). Well, on a NP231, that equals almost 1qt! Glad I checked.

We tend to foerget about the TC until we need it off road. Good time to check your TC and make sure it has plenty of fluid.

problem with the old CJs like I have is the tranny and TC share fluid, so if one is low so is the other and that can be real bad.
I wrote an article once for a cj forum about maintenance you need to do if you just buy a jeep, I think I can find it and redo it for maybe first of the season. but this is a great start, fluids in TC, Trannies and axles are seldom checked

Agree. I just replaced this TC. Why? No fluid in the last TC! Went to Calico and discovered it in a bad way. TC was toasted. Put this one in. Paid for it. It had a SYE. So, I did the SYE kit, etc. The guy who I bought it from also installed it for me. Said he put enough of the Royal Purple in. He was wrong. I am glad I haven't hit a trial and only put maybe 80miles on it. I always teach the wife and kids. Check your fluids after having someone replace them.

Pepboys did a trans fluid swap on an old F250 diesel. Came home. 2qts low! I towed 11k lbs back then. Argg. Always double check.

Your right though. Summer time is here. Everyone needs to check the radiator fuild. Check the hoses, and fan clutch. Fan clutch is easy. Turn off motor. Put keys on work bench! Spin the fan. If it moved more than 1/2-1" the clutch is probably bad. If your draining the fluid. For $7 replace the t-stat. Just good insurance. ;)
